Thanks for the current round of opinions. I understand the pros and cons of
each RAID level, I'm asking experienced RAID 6 users to provide information
on useful practices and pitfalls to avoid...

I'm planning to build a custom storage server which will have an array size
between 6 - 8 TB. I believe using RAID 6 is a much more robust solution
since the failure of 2 disks in this system will leave much of the data
workable (with performace loss) I will not be using hardware RAID as I'm not
comfortable with 3ware, promise et al combining some sort of inhouse secret
metadata to mesh into my data. I'll be using a quad core system with about
12Gb of ram. It will not serve internet users, it's purpose is private lan
use in an office.

100% uptime is not essential but it saves man hours that could be better
spent elsewhere.

I apprecaite your comments and I enjoy hearing from more people and their
opinions.
