Hiya Guys,

Since this topic is on upgrade problems from breezy->dapper I thought
I'd just add on to the list.

Today I made the step to upgrade my ubuntu distro.

Neatly altered breezy to dapper in my sources.list and did and apt-get
update && apt-get dist-upgrade.

This all went well except for a error on the crystal theme for kwin. I
thought this to be minor and rebooted after that but my system wouldn't
boot, because after a while I was presented a Kubuntu loader picture and
after that nothing.

So I went for a recovery mode boot on my 2.6.12 kernel. The 2.6.15
kernel was installed but the initrd-2.6.15 is missing so I couldn't
boot into this kernel. My grub wasn't updated aswell.

Now booting it asked for my root password for maintenance, which I did
give, and then I got a busy-box. I noticed the following in the boot
messages when I comes to networking, a lot of files where missing:

/var/run/pppconfig

/sbin/ifrename

/etc/network/options

Trying to bring up my network connection manually using dhclient eth0
doesn't work for it says:

SIOCSIFADDR : Permission denied

SIOCSIFFLAGS : Permission denied

SIOCSIFFLAGS : Permission denied

And:

network is down

While it really isn't, only no activity is going on when checking on
the router, the connected led is buring though and the connection was
working before.

Trying to finish the apt-gte dist-upgrade result in a

Try to run apt-get -f install

So I did and it tries to install the
kwin_style_crystal_0.9.9_unbuntu.deb package.

This goes well up untill the actual installation where it says:

/usr/lib/kde3/kwin_crystal_config.so

subproces was killed by signal (Broken Pipe)

Does anyone of you have an idea where to begin and what is wrong?

Thanks in advance, Jasper van Zuijlen
