howto set options to removable device?

sorry i don't have this stuff on hand, but this is managed with udev and
gnome-volume-manager.  consult the documentation in
/usr/share/doc/(udev|gnome-volume-manager).  There are also various udev
howtos on the internet, but some of these are likely out of date, as I
understand udev has changed significantly in 2.6.15 and later kernels.
