Thunderbird lost mail with dapper

Hi,
I was running the latest dapper on an i686 laptop just fine, including
thunderbird, when I quick thunderbird as me and accidentally restarted
it as root (i.e., with sudo thunderbird). Now when I start thunderbird
as a normal user, it does not read my existing folders (which are still
there) but asks me to re-configure a whole new thunderbird account.
I've checked and my old folder are still there and everything is owned
and readable by me, but thunderbird does not recognize them.
Any idea of what file(s) starting it with 'sudo thunderbird' might have
changed/corrupted?
Thanks,
Charlie
