Yes, I have a number of orinoco-based cards. Some work better with
hostap, others work better with the orinoco drivers

It's not too hard. Just install hostap-utils. Unfortunately, due to a
bug in the package
( https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/hostap-utils/+bug/41652 ), you'll have to create /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-hostap-utils and put
blacklist orinoco_plx
blacklist orinoco_cs
blacklist orinoco_pci
blacklist hermes

in it.

If your card were a full pcmcia card, you might have to diddle around
in /etc/pcmcia/config globally replacing orinoco_cs with hostap_cs.
