I went the 1.7.12 from universe route with Synaptic package manager and got the mail client to work but it gives me an alert message that says "Mail server does not support secure authentication." If I turn off SA, then it gets the normal password rejection. Doesn't make sense at all as the reason for using Mozilla is the secure authentication is required for the mail service yet Mozilla is reporting the Mail server doesn't support secure authenication when using this version.

I am sudo'ing to root and then running the installer but that route is now closed since I have 1.7.12 on the system now and the installation paths are different with this ubuntu version than with the standard mozilla 1.7.13 build. The issue now would be that without some serious sluething, removal of Mozilla 1.7.12 would restore the system to it's pre-installation of 1.7.12 state.
Any thoughts?

At a standstill on this again now.
