Did you try following the advices of the section :


        "In case all of this doesn't work"

If you did with no result, I'd advise trying again to revert the changes 
done before, or reinstalling from scratch and following the guide this 
time (no need to use synaptic - have a look at the guide again)

I don't know what could have borked your system, so that's the only 
solution I can advise - but a more knowledgeable person might now better 
what to do. The only difficulty is that that would mean trying to 
understand the specificities of all the packages you installed, and 
their configuration might have varied a lot during Dapper development
