If you don't mind using the command line, 'rm' deletes rather than
trashes. check out the 'rm' documentation (ie, 'man rm') for more
information.

The naming difference for trash is due to local translations. For
instance, in general conversation, Australians use "garbage" or "bin"
rather than "trash" or "wastebasket". Submit the inconsistancy as a bug
to Launchpad and specify the current locale you are using, en-US or
en-GB etc.
