Just to add to Eamonn's good advice - when you burn the CD from your
downloaded .iso file, you need to burn it as an "image" of the file. You
might want to read

to avoid any confusion, or wasting CDs by burning them as data files. 

If you burn the CD correctly, the contents will show a whole series of
directories (folders) and files. If you do it the wrong way, you will just
see one file on the CD, and of course the CD won't boot.

If you find that the CD fails to boot after following the instructions on
the page linked above, check that your machine's BIOS is set to boot from
the  CD-ROM before the hard disk drive.
