Hi Dimitri,

My 0.02$:

I had kind of the same probs with a 256meg pentium M 1.4 and usb
cdromdrive. I ended up installing breezy in text mode and upgraded to
dapper by editing sources.list.

downloading the alternate should help as well because both the breezy
and dapper alternative enable installing in text mode.
