I think that was clear - I doubt that most would have seen your response
as "complaining".

You are one of those who are motivated and willing to read - I agree that
terse command line answers can turn people away, as I hope my previous
post made clear.

Well, perhaps not exactly "shouldn't be" - after all anyone is free to try
- but those who make an effort are more likely to learn, and more likely to
get the most from Linux, I suppose.

Personally, I think that's how the Free and Open Source ethos works. If we
are aware of the gift we have been given, we try to return the favour,
within our own capabilities.

As I said above, I think the occasional discussion of issues like this is
generally a Good Thing (tm)
