I am writing this from Kubuntu Dapper running on a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939
motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 (dual core) 3800+. Runs like a champ.
I have built my own boxes for years. It is not a hard thing to do and it is
fun. I also have a brand new (still in box) ECS K8T890-A motherboard that
supports the dual core Athlon 64, but I have, obviously, not tested it out on
U/Kubuntu.
Good luck.
