Samsung Laser Printer

I am very satisfied with SCX-4100, though I had to make some googling in
order to have it up and working with Dapper (while with Breezy I had no
problems at all).

Look here:http://tinyurl.com/nwufy

for the fine Elijah Lofgren's howto I reported.

If the most recent driver on the samsung site does not work for your
scanner  (complaining it can't find mfpport.ko module and
similar things), just uninstall it and reinstall in its place the old
driver 20051130084614343_DriversPack-1.0.165.tar.gz according to the
thread above.

Seems that the latest (july 2006) driver installs some kind of wrapper
which insist on calling mfp modules which are not really necessary
indeed (see also here http://tinyurl.com/rhkw5 ). And if the installer
does not like your kernel, it does not install the modules it thinks it
needs. So, when you eventually call Xsane, you get all kinds of weird
error messages insisting he cannot insmod those modules.

Now the difficult (not-so-difficult indeed) part. To get the old
driver, I had to make some guessing on the right URL (because by
default the samsung site presents you only the latest driver). So, go
get the working driver from

http://tinyurl.com/lpw8f

before they eventually unlink it!
