Finally I installed Ubuntu on my PC.
It has a neat and improved look from 5.10(badger)
It is fast also as I had found 5.10 a little bit sluggish.
Here are some of the problems I faced/face whilst installing
If anyone has faced the same please contribute
1. U need to download the alternate CD instead to install it thru the debian
style installer
Is this mentioned anywhere as I came to know abt it from these lists and
after trying to install from the desktop cd.?
2.Whilst the alternate cd install process the display showed this message
"Retrieving file 100 of 1196" and it went further
Suddenly at 596 the progress bar did not move for a long time giving me the
impression that the install had hanged.
I checked that there was constant disk activity(HDD and CD). Finally after
almost 20 minutes its started and went smoothly
3.After some time (process 2 completed) during the install the screen
suddenly went blank like the sleep mode of the monitor.
and no matter how much I tried the keyboard and the mouse no display
returned and there were only 2 squares on the screen.
Finally after some time after many keepresses on the keyboard and also
ctrl-alt-del I reset my pc.
To my surprise eerything had been installed fine including GRUB and the
Ubuntu booted
Now after booting I get the meesage "Cannot find the human.xml file"
When ok is clicked the GDM screen comes up but I cannot type anything in the
login and password.
Here I have to press OK/Cancel once to have the fields activated.
Are there any solutions for the point 3 above and has anyone faced the same
problem
Thanks
Ninad
