However, the dapper-updates repository is exempt from this restriction
as far as I know. I couldn't find a description that officially
describes what can go into it, but in Breezy a new update manger was
pushed to facilitate easier upgrades to Dapper.

And then of course there is the dapper-backports repository. The OP
might want to look into the possibility of filing a backport bug for his
driver problem here: https://launchpad.net/products/dapper-backports
