Oh, and one final detail: "dmraid -an; dmraid -ay" yields the following:
[ 2881.836361] attempt to access beyond end of device

[ 2881.836406] sdb: rw=0, want=9767777280, limit=876773168
I'm pretty sure I'm getting the same messages during the boot sequence
too.
