A new initial ramdisk with statically-linked `mount?'

As
http://news.gmane.org/find-root.php?message_id=%3cuhd1r61jp.fsf%40boost%2dconsulting.com%3e
shows, I am having some problems mounting my LVM+dmraid filesystem.
It's been suggested that the problem is an insufficiently powerful
`mount' command built into BusyBox, which is used by the current
initial ramdisk.
As shown, I tried setting BUSYBOX=n in my initramfs.conf and using
update-initramfs, but to no avail. I can't find any good information
about how to set up a new initial ramdisk with the real `mount'
command built into it.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks very much in advance!
