tetex 2.x on ubuntu

On my desktop machine (dapper), I would like to install tetex 2.x, as
I need to be able to run an old version of lilypond which doesn't work
with 3.x.
Is there a way to do this? What I had on my Debian unstable system
was a file /etc/apt/preferences which said:
Package: tetex-bin
Pin: version 2.0.2*
Pin-Priority: 1001
Package: tetex-base
Pin: version 2.0.2*
Pin-Priority: 1001
When I put this file on my Dapper system, and say "apt-get install
tetex-base tetex-bin", I get:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package tetex-base is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
tetex-extra tetex-doc texinfo tex-common
E: Package tetex-base has no installation candidate
When I try to install the newer package names, I get:
root at cornet:/mnt/oldroot/etc/apt# apt-get install tetex-extra tetex-doc Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
tetex-extra: Depends: tetex-base (>= 3.0-11) but it is not installable
Depends: tetex-bin (>= 2.99) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages
I have tried a couple of other things with similar results. Does
anyone know if what I'm trying to do is possible? I'm prepared for
the answer that it isn't; I would guess it would be possible to use a
live CD with an old Tetex, or even to install an old system on my new
giant hard drive that could be booted in an emergency. But since I
don't know of anything that I can do with 3.x that I can't with 2.x,
and there is something that I definitely need to do from time to time
that works with 2.x and not with 3.x, I'd really rather have 2.x.
