This is an already known (and reported) bug[1] in the amd64
architecture.
It was reported before dapper was released. The package maintainer
rejected the bug back then claiming it only affected upgrades from
broken dapper packages.
Fortunately the bug was confirmed again, and its importance raised to
"High". At least it will be fixed in the next ubuntu stable release.
