Grub set up

Confirm this in other ways, but if my memory serves me:

remember 1=0 2=1 3=2 obvious really!!?? (what were they thinking!!!)

the first partition on the primary drive is (0,0)
second on primary (0,1)
third on primary (0,2) etc

first on secondary (1,0) etc.

any logical/extended partition is always the (n,4) so the first
partition of a logical partition is (n,5)

Oh, did I mention I HATE GRUB!!!! It's such a pain to understand and
configure....

Grub will see/recognise existing partitions and the way they identify
themselves. So first, second etc above are not always found in sequence
on your disk.
