Should KDE programs be shown in Ubuntu Gnome menu?

I don't think it answers your questions above but just for the records I
mention it here:
AFAICT all the user-specific menu settings are reflected through *.desktop
files in
~/.local/share/applications
For example, if you activate the menu entry for KNode (I also did that as I
remember now) in Alacarte, a file
~/.local/share/applications/kde/KNode.desktop
is created with it's the main difference to
/usr/share/applications/kde/KNode.desktop
being that it contains a line
Hidden=false
You can even create your own menu entries by placing a correctly made .desktop
file there.
