You might want to just set yourself to "nomail" instead of unsubscribing
if you're planning to be back.  (Of course that assumes mailman is
responding to any of your requests, either via the web or e-mail.  If
memory serves, a subject of "help" to "listname-request at domain.tld"
(in this case "ubuntu-users-request at lists.ubuntu.com") will get you the
list management commands you can send through e-mail to control your
subscription...
