Kernel boot options for Live DVD

Hello:

I just got Ubuntu 5.1. In the Live version I have a system freeze after
booting when it switches to graphical mode. This has happened before with
other Linux distros and I think the problem is my video card, an ATI Radeon
X600 pci express. What I usually do is to use the vesa driver, changing the
xorg.conf or putting at boot "xmodule=vesa". Can I do the same with the
Ubuntu 5.1 Live DVD? What are the boot options for an init 3 session, or how
can I load the vesa driver at boot?

Thanks.
Joao
