best way to keep w32codecs up to date?

I can play most movies with little problems (some are laggy and some i
get horrid artifacts all through the video). But every no and again I
get movies that I can hear the sound but get no movie, or I just plain
can't play it at all.
What would you recommend as the best way to keep these codecs (as I
assume that's the problem) up to date?
