Apparent IPv6 Problem While Using Update Manager

Hi List!

We have Quest DSL and a laptop which has had FC4 but now is loaded with
Ubuntu. When connected to the Internet Konqueror would always browse to any
site but Firefox would browse only to some local sites (rarely "google" or
"yahoo" for example). A post on the Fedora list lead me to disable IPv6 in
the Firefox configuration ("about:config" on the URL line, networking
section) and that does indeed cure the symptom.

A "listen" on the Ethernet line using tcpdump and ethereal shows that
Firefox, without disabling IPv6, gets "1.0.0.0" as the IP address to send to
which results in no reply (and a timeout of course) when it is used. With
IPv6 disabled operation is normal (the actual IP address of the domain
requested is supplied in the reply to the DNS request and used).

When I bring up "System>Administration>Update Manager" and press "Reload"
most often a whole bunch of errors occur which relate to not being able to
contact the sites on the web, some showing an apparent IP of "1.0.0.0".
Same with "Add Applications" and "Synaptic".

Is there a way and would it still work to disable IPv6 on the system. My
guess is that these would always work if I did.

I would love feedback on this.

Thanks for the help!

Tod
