software or hardware raid? It can make a difference. I'm not an expert
on this but it is worth looking that sort of thing up on google. Also,
you may have trouble finding Ubuntu-specific answers because your
hardware is quite different from the norm.
Another possible problem could be a bad cd. You should md5sum or sha1sum
it and check to see it matches that on the download server.
