Networking not auto starting in Dapper

phew... My machine has been playing up in other ways lately so I thought
I was having real bad h/w problems. I don't mind a problem in Dapper -
it is after all alpha/beta s/w. I just get  concerned when I can't
figure out if it's me, the h/w or the s/w :-)
