There have been several posts regarding firefox problems. I have not
tried all of this on ubuntu as I haven't had (or maybe pre-empted) such
problems from experience in another OS ( eCS)

Firefox has a "compreg.dat"file which usually needs to be deleted when
adding a plugin so that the file rebuilds on program start.

The freezes and high CPU use are almost always related to flash. I
recommend installing "flashblock" extension which allows you to NOT see
the flash items unless you click on them . you get an icon in place of
the flash . If you WANT the flash to play you click on the icon) It
seems many of the "flash" ads are poorly built and will often cause the
cpu to max or even the browser to crash.

I DO use flashblock on ubuntu/kubuntu it WORKS I install it on all OS as
a matter of course (and priority) without it I have ALWAYS gotten
firefox/mozilla hangs on all Linux versions I've tries and on eCS (OS/2)

Regarding not getting into the Wiki I have noticed on eCS going to the
(ubuntu)WIKI results in a message qustioning an unknown certificate.
Possibly not getting that page is a certificate problem?
