Will Ubuntu use KDE instead of Gnome ?

no.  To my best knowledge, there has never been a public discussion to
replace Gnome with KDE on the Ubuntu CD. And trust me:  if this would
have been discussed, we would have heard about it since it would
create quite a few waves in the community :)

But have you looked at kubuntu?    http://kubuntu.org/download.php
It is a single CD install, very similar to Ubuntu, but with the one
difference that Gnome has been replaced by KDE. The rest is more or
less the same.

And kubuntu is an official Ubuntu project, hosted on the same servers,
maintained the same way, etc.  Kubuntu is whant Mark Shuttleworth is
using on his desktop to come back to the original email in this
thread.
