no sound at all.. just static

I have this same problem, With the SB Audigy 2ZS Notebook.  I finally
got the card to work by installing dapper and changing the default
device to card1, but all I get is *Loud* static.

Playing with the PCM volume gives me some tangible tones when I run the
test sound but only at the very end of the playback, everything else is
that same loud static.
