Printing from networked XP to local linux printer

Have you tried (temporarily) disabling firewalls on both machines, as it
might be a firewall issue rather than cups?  But if that doesn't work,
why not use samba? It's a mature and effective technology, and (dare I
say it) straightforward. If you do that, don't forget to install samba
and smbfs as well as smbclient.
