Making FireFox default browser, and a nice icon for it

Edit -> Preferences -> General should do it.  There's a specific tickbox 
to make Firefox your default browser.

I'm sending you the official icon by separate email.  You can use any 
icon-ised graphic.  Before I go any further, are you running Gnome and 
only Gnome, or do you have KDE running as your default desktop?
