Alternatives to ubuntu?

you know. linux is known for choice so i will give you some suggestions.
please please solve problems in other more appropriatly named threads. 
it really does confuse a person who searches in the archive or on gmane.

gentoo is know for bieng a great source distro. its fast too and has a 
large repository (yes larger than debian and ubuntu) of software

fedora is great too. but i left fedora for bieng slow. but i think now 
it was cuz it used the i686 kernel that is a bad bad bad kernel type.
mandrake
suse is very nice
