Hotwayd Problems

I've used hotwayd in the past with other distros to get webmail through 
a gateway.  With Ubuntu I've found it in the universe repository, but it 
doesn't set itself to run as a daemon, which installing it with other 
distros does.

Looking at the man page, it refers me to the website at 
http://hotwayd.sourceforge.net for instructions to set hotwayd up with 
inetd (which Ubuntu uses) but I'm getting this, both in Konqueror and 
Firefox:

"CRITICAL_ERROR:
Line : generic, class2.php

Error reported as: [6]: Unable to form a valid connection to mySQL. 
Please check that your e107_config.php contains the correct information."

Anybody know how to successfully get hotwayd to run as a daemon?  Or get 
the instructions on the website?
