I'm going to ask the obvious: did you install any Chinese fonts?  I'm
using SCIM and entering Chinese text using Wubi, Smart Pinyin and
Ziranma without any difficulty (although finding documentation for
Ziranma is becoming laughable -- I can't quite figure it out).

为什么您要写中文? (Don't answer the question.  I'm just demonstrating
typing in Chinese.  ;-))
