Why not just use a graphical front end like k3b? Or if you want to use 
the command line, use cdrecord and growisofs (cdrecord for cd's and 
growisofs for dvd's). Both of these programs run well in every flavour 
of Ubuntu and are easier to use (in my opinion) than cdrdao.
