MPlayer problematic on audio streams

It seems that Breezy's mplayer config file --which has several defaults
defined in it-- cannot be overridden w/o it just sitting there forever &
playing nothing.

1. Cache size, for instance: the default cache size is 1024 & when I put
'-cache 512' on the command line it reports the new cache size but then plays
nothing.

2. Playlist option: if I put '-playlist [URL]' on the command line it is the
same behaviour as in #1. Nothing plays.

I can set the cache size to whatever I want it in the config file but there is
absolutely nothing to address the fact that many streaming audio sites
require '-playlist' to behave properly.

I wish to poll the users b-4 I post this as a bug, to see if there is a
logical --or even an illogical-- workaround.

Thanks.
