Busted mplayer

Mplayer (CLI-invoked) will not play an audio stream.  I invoked it and left it 
for four hours while I was gone and when I got back it was still silent.  
Previous, I'd let it sit for a few minutes and just gave up on it, finally.  
This time I wanted to see if it would eventually start playing.  The answer 
is no.

The modem *seemed* to be active the whole time --and I do have sound, 
otherwise-- but it never uttered a peep.  The stream is below, for anyone 
interested in trying it.  This behaviour is post-update, though it was the 
same prior to updating, as well.

The above stream works flawlessly within Gentoo's MPlayer 1.0pre4-3.3.4.  The 
outputs are below, which might help illustrate what is happening.
