laptop battery

I have a Compaq presario. Not the same number but the
battery only last 
about 2 hours for me in Ubuntu. I have it dual booted
and it only last 
30 minutes in windows. Its about a year old also. If
you can scaling 
your processor down does save on the battery life. Dim
the screen as 
much as you can stand. I run wireless all the time
when I'm running on 
battery but I'm sure turning that off will help.I
never use orca but I 
almost always run open office, thunderbird, and gaim
while I'm wireless.
