Compiling woes

Under Dapper 6.06

New Asus K8v-vm Ultra motherboard.
Driver for the integrated sound card comes as a tarball.

On compiling the tarball I get an error:

checking for kernel version... The file /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h 
does not exist.
Please, install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution

I _have_ installed the linux sources and headers.

Questions:

- Anyone got any idea how do I get my driver to compile ?
