Is this on Edgy or Feisty. Can you file a bug report and attach the
crash report in /var/crash so we can see what its crashing on. More than
likely it is apt-index-watcher curropting the cache for apt. In feisty
this has been fixed. it has been fixed in edgy just not uploaded yet, ut
i would like to see the crash reports so we can pin point exactly what
is going on there.
Also the subject of this thread implies that its only some
apt/synaptic/adept related commands/apps. IIRC it has to do with libapt
(so anything using libapt is gonna crash) that excludes aptitude and
smartpm.
