Is it crazy to buy a MacBook?

Some people (like me) think even Gnome or KDE are too bloated and unnecesarily complicated. (I run xubuntu with IceWM.) In comparison, OS X is like a Rube Goldberg ( http://preview.tinyurl.com/f9bub ) device. 

Its core, Darwin, is interesting and useful; for example, it will automount devices (but then, so will ubuntu). But OS X buries Darwin beneath this behemoth of a GUI, which needs 1G of memory to run reasonably, that provides ... bouncing icons?

I have also seen many new world Macs with indifferent build quality (though I haven't seen any MacBooks). The old world Macs were built like Volvos.

I bought a used Lombard for under $200 that runs ubuntu brilliantly. The Pismo, for a few dollars more, has firewire, too.
