wireless settings

I have a laptop running 6.06 LTS with ipw2100 wireless

I also have an XP box with a USB54G adapter.

Both are connecting to a WVS440N router.

I got the XP box to see and connect to the router.

The ubuntu laptop sees the wireless network, and indicates that it has a
strong signal connection, but cannot access the ip of the router.

Can someone here give me some clues as to the settings to use to get
this working?
