Automatic MP3 converter?

Hello,

I have a largish music collection, mostly in MP3, but all of the stuff
from the past year or so in FLAC (Ripped from CDs). I am about to
recieve a portable MP3 player. Is there a way for me to automatically
convert the FLACs to MP3s when I transfer them to the player. I intend
to manage the player using Rhythmbox, so a plug-in for that would be
ideal. It's a drag-and-drop type player, so it is not a problem if I
must use another application.

Failing that, can anyone recommend a good batch converter? GUI would
be ideal, but I'm not afraid of a terminal :)
