Acer TravelMate 512 fails Ubuntu 6.06 install

I have an Acer laying around and I am trying to install Ubuntu on it just for grins.  Somewhere after the mouse appears on the screen it just goes bye bye.  No harddrive activity, No monitor activity, and no way to access it except to reboot it.
