When do you turn off your Ubuntu boxes?

I don't really believe that.  I think the components that are most
likely to wear are the mechanical ones: drives and fans.  Those wear out
with every spin. 

The components that would be affected by warming up & cooling down are
mostly all the chips & memory.. But those don't break in a typical life
time of just about any computer anyway.  If they're affected then it
could be because of dust, and dust is actually sucked in more as the
machine is running longer.

Overall I think an effect, positive or negative, is minimal. (esp. if
you allow drives to go to sleep)
