off-topic because I am curious: What do you / we still need ER modeling
tools for? For what I've seen lately, unless doing documentation of some
existing system, I've been quite happy using UML class diagrams and
(talking mapping again) assuming that database persistence is something
that is "just around" when I need it - no thing to worry about, and no
real thing to specifically deal with. Indeed, for my diploma thesis
(which relied upon an existing, proprietary enterprise information
system) I did have to deal with ER modeling tools again, but let aside
this, I try to avoid dealing with "low-level" (RDBMS) details, SQL
queries and the like as good as somehow possible...
But that's just my point of view. What is yours? What sort of situations
are you in where ideas like O/R mapping and the like just don't work?
Looking forward to reading your replies. :)
Cheers & best,
Kris
