I can assume this happens every time you boot?  If you can get to a
console, type

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

You will be prompted for a number of questions which will be used to
build another xorg.conf.  If you have user manuals for your monitor and
graphics card, it might be a good idea to have those handy.  You'll be
asked a bunch of questions, and if you've got the manuals, you may not
have to accept defaults ..
