Ubuntu 6.06 Machine Constantly locking up.

If it now dies regularly, and you haven't changed anything
(especially since you imply it doesn't matter what you are doing)
it's quite probably hardware not software.

Open 'er up and check all the cards and cables are seated properly.
Blow off the dust, then turn it on and make sure all the fans
are turning (esp the cpu fan)

If that doesn't turn up anything, run the memtest utility
(pretty sure it's an option on the install cd, or download and
burn yourself a cd with that on it.)   If it shows errors that's
likely your problem.  If it dies doing that, suspect the power supply...
