A follow up to my own post.

Here's a bug report related to the Win-key problem:

  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165343

High priority but outstanding for over a year and a half.

But what's proposed is way to technical for regular desktop users.

In addition, I found a kludge to work around Gnome's/Metacity's
seemingly gaping usability issue of being unable to assign keyboard
shortcuts by using xbindkeys and xbindkeys-config.

Again, this is fine for me, but useless for encouraging Windows' users
on to Ubuntu.
